There are many different forms of mediation. Mediation can be an informal setting where the parties get together to resolve any disputes that may exist. A Mediator can be hired to help facilitate the communication between the two parties. The Mediator also plays an important role in being the "secret" holder of the settlement negotiations to help determine if the parties are close enough to a resolution that it is worth continuing discussions.
Many states including Florida offer mediation through a state program for any policyholders that are unhappy with the settlement they are receiving on their property insurance claim. There are some limitations, but generally a policyholder is allowed to request a mediation of the issues at no charge to them to give them an opportunity to present their concerns to a mediator with the insurance company representative also attending.
